Did You Receive the Holy Spirit When You Believed? – Acts 19:1-7

Paul, the Apostle, prior to this event had preached in Ephesus. A very eloquent speaking Jew named Apollos, had also preached in Ephesus previously. Apollos preached John the Baptist’s message of a baptism of repentance. John the Baptist also preached all should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

God gifted Apollos with the ability to speak eloquently. He also gifted him with faithful followers of Jesus, Aquila and Priscilla, to explain to him the way of God more accurately. (Acts 18:1-26)

Apollos traveled to Corinth (in Europe) preaching the correct Gospel at the same time Paul arrived again in Ephesus (in Asia) looking to strengthen the Church.

Paul found disciples in Ephesus. They religiously followed a portion of what they knew of John the Baptist’s teaching given to them most likely by Apollos. (Matthew 3:1-11)

Paul preached to these men the complete Gospel of Jesus Christ. The men believed and were baptized again, this time in the name of the Lord Jesus.

God demonstrated Paul’s Apostolic authority by allowing the laying on of hands so they might receive the Holy Spirit. This was a unique experience.

The Holy Spirit came upon these men and they began exercising the Holy Spirit gifts of speaking with languages not learned and prophesying. (1 Corinthians 12:1-11)

These men were forever changed when they entered a right relationship with God.

When people of all ages do life God’s way, they always get God’s results. He is Creator, Sustainer, Savior and Lord. Let Him lead your life.

Have you received the Holy Spirit?
Are you born again?
Is there evidence that Christ lives in you?
Are you using the gift or gifts the Holy Spirit has given you?
Jesus is waiting for you. In this new year, receive Him and serve Him. He is worthy!
