Real Repentance Creates Real Joy – Matthew 5:1-4

Most would read the Bible and call the Beatitudes by name and assume there is a general promise within them for everyone. But if we look closer, we see this divine joy and pure happiness is reserved for only those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior – His disciples.

Jesus pulled away from the crowd to be with His disciples. Only they heard the truths from Jesus and shared them with us. We listen and grow in faith.

We mentioned last week, to be poor in spirit means to be righteously humble. This is the lifestyle God will bless. We must remember meekness is not weakness. Meekness refers to power under control. (Micah 6:8; 1 Peter 5:6-11)

When we look at our sin as God looks at our sin, it causes us to be broken and repentant.

There is divine joy and pure happiness for those who have repented of their sin and are walking in right fellowship with God. He is pleased with us, and we are satisfied in Him. (James 4:7-10; 1 John 1:5-10)

If we excuse, cover, or defend sin in any capacity, we are sinning against God and misunderstand the teachings of Jesus. Believers must daily submit to the Holy Scriptures and the Holy Spirit’s leading and fight the flesh. (Galatians 5:16,17)

To receive the wonderful comfort that comes through fellowship with God, we must be diligent to keep short accounts with God. We must run away from sin. (Romans 3:21-26; 2 Timothy 2:14-26)

What is your status with God?
Do you dabble with sin?
Have you ever humbled yourself before Holy God and repented of your sins?
Are you chasing after God – making disciples of Jesus as you live your life?
Only God and you can accomplish all He has in store for your life – Join Him!
